And if the firm isn't the right instrument for the question, you'll hear that too, along with a pointer in a better direction where we can offer one.

- Fit and conflictsThe first conversation requires no confidential information. Fit and a preliminary conflict screen come before sensitive material is requested.
- Confidentiality and credentialsIf there is a plausible fit, the parties establish mutual confidentiality and you receive the identities, biographies, relevant experience, and conflict disclosures of the principals proposed for the work.
- Secure exchangeA channel appropriate to the matter is agreed before substantive materials are shared or a proposal is developed.
