Begin with the decision. A useful first note names the decision being considered, why it has become difficult, and the leadership body responsible for it — nothing more. The firm takes on a limited number of engagements at a time; you'll hear back from a managing principal, usually within two business days. And if the firm isn't the right instrument for the question, you'll hear that too, along with a pointer in a better direction where we can offer one.

A first note leads to a fit conversation — a limited discussion that requires nothing confidential. Where there's a plausible fit, the parties establish mutual confidentiality, and you receive the identities, biographies, and conflict disclosures of the principals proposed for the work before any proposal is developed.
